Welcome back. For our second post of Q3 you are in the drivers seat. Below are five different sites that are at the forefront of technology news. Each has a different slant. Please read one article from one site find another article about the same topic on another site. Then compare and contrast the points of view. Are they different? How? For your blog post please first summarize what the article was about and then compare and contrast the viewpoints from the different sites.
Tech sites:
https://techcrunch.com/
https://www.wired.com/
http://gizmodo.com/
https://medium.com/
https://www.reddit.com/r/technology/
The two sites that I picked were (http://kotaku.com/nintendo-switch-the-kotaku-review-1792776350) and (https://www.wired.com/2017/03/review-nintendo-switch/).
ReplyDeletethe article that i picked from these two sites was about the nintendo Switch and their point of views on this topic. they both explain the parts and how it used. The first site that I listed explains how many people will either love it or many people will be very angry about it. They also explain that you can set it up anywhere like on your airplane table or in the back of a car which is great in their idea but they feel like they might have to come out with a "New Nintendo Switch" to fix any problems people might have with it, like for example how the Joy Con is uncomfortable to play with. The second Site I listed claims that they want to love the switch, if it actually worked. They also feel that it is something that isn't even finished yet. They also feel like the JoyCon isn't comfortable to hold while playing just like the first site thought. The writer of this article said "I cannot play Switch on the television—not unless I buy an optional “Pro Controller” for $70, that is." which in their opinion, they feel that nintendo has a lot of work to do with the switch.
Two sites that I picked were kotaku.com and wired.com. I found an article about the Nintendo Switch and reviews on both websites. Both articles talk about the joy-cons of the Switch and how the two game controllers work and also how it is used. You can play it on the television or use a kickstand and play it that way. People have said "it's a flawed piece of hardware". It has its shortcomings and it "feels destined to be improved". Either gamers like it and play it or they don't. It is Nintendo's seventh console, so they need to fix it pronto, so people won't give it such a bad rep.
ReplyDeleteThe two sites I picked are http://gizmodo.com/electronic-roses-could-one-day-turn-gardens-into-batter-1792871074 and http://www.singaporenews.sg/technology/electronic-roses-could-one-day-turn-gardens-into-batteries/. These articles are about turning garden flowers into batteries. The first cyborg flowers came in late 2015. Linköping University in Sweden revealed they had developed the world’s first electronic plant. The researchers introduced a synthetic polymer to the flower which was sucked up into its vascular system where it eventually self-assembled into longer chains that could conduct electrical signals. The second website shows the same thing from gizmodo. There are no differences or changes.
ReplyDeleteThe two websites I used were gizmodo.com and medium.com, both the articles were about the Uber company and their issues with recent scandals about sexual harassment, corrupt management and the CEO of the company saying inappropriate comments about his workers. The gizmodo website mainly focused on the sexual harassment facing the female engineers from their management, and how headquarters is refusing to take action about it. Medium website lightly touched based on the sexual harassment issues, but was more focused on the issues of the CEO and how Uber might not be able to come back from all these recent issues. Gizmido quoted a blog from a former ex-worker of Uber who shared her experience with sexual harassment and how the company refused to help her (they even threatened to fire her if she mentioned it again). In the medium website they mention campaigns against Uber’s lack of attention to its workers and especially towards the CEO who is trying to cover up the problems by donating heaps of money to organizations and make it seem as though the company is against all the allegations it has towards them. Both articles discuss Uber’s problems with their corrupt management and mistreatment of workers, but the medium website goes into further detail of how Uber is going down and how their debt is growing because of this; the gizmido websites simply just relays the stories of female engineers at Uber who have been harassed.
ReplyDeleteSo I did my report on Trump's views on neutrality. As you know, net neutrality basically allows us to not pay for certain online services and instead of punishing the common person by putting slow load times, we don't have slow load times.
ReplyDeleteTrump however doesn't want net neutrality anymore, and wants people to pay extra money to be able to access certain websites. This is very bad since multiple bills have tried to abolish net neutrality. As for what we know, the democrats are going to fight back for us so that we don't have to pay more money for decent internet.

two websites i chose are (https://www.wired.com/2017/03/future-the-liberals-want-meme-photo/) and (https://www.thenewscommenter.com/news/the-story-behind-that-future-that-liberals-want-photo/727858#.WLmD_xLys1ghttps) - these two websites had an article about the political meme in the internet about the liberalist's views on what the future should be, presenting a Muslim and Transgender man seated on the subway. The two passengers went about their day taking the subway to where their business was, meanwhile another passenger, Boubah Barry, felt like posting his perspective on what he witnessed - which was that the two were sitting together and didn't care whether or not he/she was muslim or transgender. even though the picture had a rewarding caption to it - the News Network attached it to a tweet on Wednesday with the message “This is the future that liberals want.” This caused the liberals to outcry about the message this article is sending and caused yet again another political disagreement.
ReplyDeleteThe two websites I used were reddit.com and medium.com the articles I read were both on Trump involving infrastructure. Reddit focuses on how Trump has a $1 trillion infrastructure plan to improve roads, hospitals etc. along with questioning if all of this will be privately funded. Medium focuses on transportation, which will decrease in congestion and allow for more people to get jobs. Their are changes with the two since one questions his fund while the other thinks that it would be beneficial.
ReplyDeleteThe first website I used was from reddit.com and it was about the Republican online privacy bill. It basically described what the new passing of the bill meant to us and how it can affect our careers, schooling, and life in general. The other website I used in relation to this was from NY Times and how the republicans are selling out our information and what it will be used for and the dangers of it. Both are similar in that regardless, this isn't good. Our information is out there and we can't stop it.
